Wajir Governor approves 20-acre land allocation for KRA Trade Facilitation Center

Wajir governor Ahmed Abdullahi announced the approval of Kenya Revenue Authority's request for 20 acres of land for the construction of a Trade Facilitation Center along the Wajir -Mandera road.

The Governor who received a delegation from KRA led by Barille Wario, the Deputy Commissioner of Facilities and Logistics Services, said the project is part of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development project.

He revealed that the County government of Wajir accepted the proposal from KRA on the allocation of 20 acres of land for the construction of the centre.

"This initiative holds the promise of enhancing and ensuring the welfare of our society," said Ahmed.

The governor stated that, together with KRA, they established modalities for the smooth and efficient allocation of the 20 acres of land.

He noted that the move marks a significant step forward "in our collaborative efforts towards regional development and economic prosperity for the locals".

"The project aims to open up 24 marginalised counties across the country and it should be given a full commitment to achieve its intended purpose" said the governor.

The project is funded by the World Bank and other partners and implemented by the North Eastern Development Initiative(NEDI).

It remains an integral part of the Isiolo-Mandera road which is approximately 750 Km and traverses through Meru County, Wajir County and Mandera County.

According to KeNHA, the objective of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project is to enhance connectivity between Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia.

The project also seeks to strengthen cooperation and collaboration between security agencies and communities.

NEDI coordinator Simba Guleid expressed optimism that the project was coming to life.

“From dream to reality: The Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project, the road from Isiolo to Mandera is coming to life... I am grateful for the opportunity to witness this transformation,” he said on the X platform.

Two weeks Garissa leaders led by Governor Nathif Jama called for the speedy implementation of the project that they said would open economic opportunities in the region.
